The Reiki Certification Pathway: What Each Level Means
Reiki training is structured in levels, each building on the previous and expanding the practitioner’s capacity to channel and work with healing energy.
Reiki Level 1: The Foundation
Who it’s for: Complete beginners with no prior experience in energy healing.
What you’ll learn:
- The history and origins of Reiki (Mikao Usui and the Usui system)
- The five Reiki principles (Gokai) and how to live them
- How energy and the body’s energy centres (chakras) are understood in Reiki
- Basic hand positions for self-treatment
- How to give Reiki to friends, family, and pets
- The Level 1 attunement — a ceremonial process that opens and aligns your channel for Reiki energy
The attunement: This is the heart of every Reiki level. In an attunement, the Reiki Master Teacher uses specific symbols and intention to align the student’s energy field with the Reiki frequency. After a Level 1 attunement, you can give and receive Reiki energy immediately.

Reiki Level 2: Deepening the Practice
Who it’s for: Those who have completed Level 1 and want to expand their skills and healing capacity.

- Three core Reiki symbols and their uses (Cho Ku Rei, Sei He Ki, Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen)
- Distance healing techniques — sending Reiki across space and time

Distance healing: One of the most significant developments at Level 2 is learning to send Reiki remotely — the foundation of distance Reiki practice. This opens the possibility of supporting family members, friends, and eventually clients anywhere in the world.
Ideal for: Those considering Reiki as a professional complement to an existing practice (massage therapy, counselling, nursing), serious self-healing practitioners, those wanting to support loved ones at a distance.

Reiki Level 3: Advanced Reiki Training (ART)
Who it’s for: Level 2 practitioners who have practised for at least a year and want to go deeper.

What Our Guelph Reiki Workshops Include
At My Reiki Connection, we design our workshops to be thorough, experiential, and supportive. Here’s what participants can expect:
Small group format — we keep our workshops intimate ( four students maximum) so that each student receives individual attention during the attunement process and throughout hands-on practice.
Comprehensive materials — each participant receives a detailed course manual they can reference throughout their ongoing practice.
Attunement ceremony — the energetic heart of every workshop, conducted with care and reverence.
Hands-on practice — students give and receive Reiki throughout the day, developing confidence in their abilities before they leave.
Ongoing support — we stay available to our graduates with questions, guidance, and additional practice sessions as they build their practice.
Certificate of completion — upon finishing each level, you receive a certificate recognizing your training in the Usui Reiki lineage.

Frequently Asked Questions About Reiki Certification in Guelph
How long does each level take?
Level 1 and Level 2 are each two full days. Advanced Reiki Training is two full days, and Reiki Master Training is three full days.
How long should I wait between levels?
We ask students to wait two to three months between Level 1 and Level 2, so there’s time to practise and get comfortable with Reiki. Before Advanced Reiki Training, we ask for at least one year of practice with Level 2. If you’re unsure whether you’re ready for the next step, just get in touch and we can talk about it.
Is Reiki certification recognized professionally?
Reiki is increasingly recognized as a valuable complementary therapy in healthcare settings. In Ontario, some hospitals and hospices include Reiki in their integrative care programs. While Reiki certification does not carry a regulated professional designation in Canada, it is a meaningful credential for those building a holistic wellness practice.
Can I practice Reiki on others after Level 1?
Yes. A Level 1 attunement activates your ability to channel Reiki energy. You can immediately offer Reiki to friends, family members, and pets. For professional practice with clients, Level 2 is required.
